Were you injured because a tractor trailer ran into your car on Highway 11 in Monroe, Georgia?
If so, you may be wondering how much insurance tractor trailers are required to have. Please see below information on insurance requirements for tractor trailers.
FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY REGULATION 387.9
All tractor trailers used in interstate commerce are subject to the federal motor carrier safety regulations.
Federal motor carrier safety regulation 387.9 states that a for-hire tractor trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 or more pounds that transports non-hazardous property must have at least $750,000 in insurance.
$750,000 is the minimum insurance requirement, however, and many of the large trucking companies have much larger insurance policies than the minimum requirement.
